HISTORY OF THE ST GEORGES CHAMBER BUILDING
FROM 1866
Perhaps younger members of society have always had a different view on how life should be led. It certainly was also apparent in the mid-1800s when they refused to become members of the long-established Port Elizabeth Club. Instead, they ultimately formed their own Club, the St. George’s Club.

HISTORY OF THE EASTERN CAPE CHAMBER OF ADVOCATES
FROM 1876
The Society has its very early origins in the arrival in Makhanda (Grahamstown) of JG Kotzé in 1876. His stay was brief as he went on to become the Chief Justice of the South African Republic in 1877.
